Eternal Punishment, Follow Up

Published: July 2, 2008
Q

I was surprised to see you state the following and this is the first time I’ve ever come across this perspective.

“This is why Jesus told His disciples not to fear those who can only kill the body, but rather fear him who can kill both body and soul (Matt. 10:28). He was talking about Satan of course, but those who reject the Lord’s pardon for their sins turn themselves over to Satan for his disposition”.

Did you understand the word in this verse to be Hades? The word for ‘Hell’ here is not Hades but Gehenna, where Satan will be tormented for ever as its his final destination. If the word for Hell was Hades, then your point would stick, but then again, maybe I’m missing something here. Please let me know. My understanding has been that once Satan is tossed into that Hell he is suffering himself, and will be too busy to be involved in anyone else’s torment. The Word says many times we are to “Fear the Lord” but not Satan. Surely “Him” in this verse refers to the Lord Himself? Am open, but can’t see what you see – please show me.

More On Saved Or Not

Q

I have been reading your answers to several questions about who goes to heaven and who doesn’t. I certainly understand the nature of trusting in Jesus alone as the basis for our salvation. Yet it appears that you give little weight to the command to repent and turn from sin.

I also understand that our ability to turn from sin and live a holy life is part of sanctification and not salvation and is also the work of Christ. Yet, part of the condition of salvation is dying to self and to sin per Paul in Romans. How shall we who died to sin still live in it? (Rom 6:2) One can’t partake of the new life or new birth, if the death to self hasn’t preceded it. According to Paul, those belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.( Gal 5:24). We are new creations.

Sadly, the Christian church is full of unregenerate people who believe they have eternal life with Christ through a gospel of easy believism with no cost or death to self. They continue to be the same person before their “conversion” as after their “conversion”. We are admonished by Paul in 2 Cor 13:5 to test ourselves to see if we are in the faith; examine ourselves! Is this truly the gospel you are intending to promote – that there need not be evidence of a changed life? If so, I strongly disagree with you.

23 Minutes In Hell? Follow Up

Q

It was a bit disconcerting to read your response to a reader with a question about the book “23 Minutes in Hell.” Hell is a real place and people need to be aware of it. I’ve read the book. While it was upsetting to read the reality of it, it seems irresponsible to tell someone to throw the book away and not be concerned about it. The author of the book seems to be a sincere, humble person and not at all a person out to create sensationalism.

God’s Warning Against Egypt

Q

Did Israel defy a biblical warning with Egypt in the brokered Hamas Peace Deal? Of course, Hamas have said before that these peace deals are only for them to regroup and rearm for battle. What is your take on the warning to Israel about Egypt?

A Question About The Anti-Christ

Published: June 27, 2008
Q

I know The anti-christ will come out of the Revived Roman Empire. What if the US ends up joining with them if oil and the economy forces us to? Barak Obama is going to go around the world this summer. Whoever heard of a not yet official nominee doing this? Why couldn’t he be a “little horn” in this new world order that world leaders seem to want so badly?

The Shack, Follow Up

Q

just read your reply to a question about the book “The Shack”. I appreciate your work and generally believe that you are right on and Spirit lead in your writings.

However all things considered I think this book is more of a tool of Satan to compromise and distort the Truth than a tool to help us understand God’s love.

I encourage you to read the commentaries I’ve included and consider todays headline on FoxNews.com about the state of Christian faith today.

Leaving Our Clothes Behind

Published: June 19, 2008
Q

When our Lord was resurrected, He left His grave clothes behind. I know a lady who is horrified to think she may go naked up into the air in the rapture, before “God and everybody.”

While we are talking about the subject, what is the significance, what are we to learn, from the face cloth folded and laid separately?

Coming Events?

Published: June 19, 2008
Q

I was wondering if you could comment on a vision by (a well known TV preacher) about what is possibly coming to the US soon. The message is more than just a vision. It is a specific message for the Church and the true believers. In a nut shell it says:

There is a big incident/crisis coming to the US and the rising fuel prices are just the tip of it. He even admits that he is not 100% clear on what it is, but he senses that it has to do with Israel, Iran, Syria and the US, and the global impact on fuel and food that it will experience. In any case, the actual warning is that the Church is supposed to take care of its own people first, then help the lost, and in doing so the lost will come in and give glory to God. There is a warning that many false Christians and non-Christians will try to act like believers in order to get help, but that we need to be careful.

He goes on to say that we are not to be frightened when it happens, but rather to be filled with the Spirit and rise up to declare the Gospel to the perishing. He also thinks that the Rapture is indeed imminent, but we may go through this crisis first, then we are out of here. He said that the crisis will be rather brief actually, which leads me to think that it will be a great time for the Gospel to be preached, and that our words will still have a great impact when the 70th week begins.

Just curious what your thoughts are on this and what you think is coming to the US in the near future.

The Shack

Q

I have several saved and unsaved friends who have been reading a book titled “The Shack.” I’m not sure if you’ve read it or not. A lot of my friends are raving about the book and they are discussing it as some new “truth” about God. The ones who like it the most are the ones who have admitted they haven’t read the Bible. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and I enjoy a good story as much as the next person – so I tried to read the book.

Since folks were touting it as some new “revelation” about God – I made sure that my “Scriptural glasses” were squeaky clean when I read. With that in mind – it was hard for me to enjoy the book because so much of it didn’t line up with what I know from the Scriptures. I stopped reading when it got very off-Scripture about “all roads” leading to God. The bottom line is that it’s a fictional story and shouldn’t be any big deal, but it has become dangerous because people are embracing it as Truth. If you have read it – what did you think about it?

King Of The Locusts

Published: June 18, 2008
Q

We have been studying Joel recently and I wonder if you know if there was a fulfillment of the locust invasion in Joel’s time in which natural locusts ate everything, and if the locusts spoken about in 1:18-2:20 are the same ones spoken of in Revelation 9? The reason I ask is because in the beginning of the book of Joel it says that the locusts ate everything, but in Revelation 9 the locusts were told not to touch the grass or trees or any green thing. The locusts in chapter 2 of Joel must be supernatural as it says in 2:8 “when they fall on the sword they are not wounded.”

I have heard that Amos 7:1 is translated in the Septuagint differently than in our modern translations and that it mentions gog being the king of the locusts. The way I have heard it translated is : “And behold a swarm of locusts was coming, and one of the young devastating locusts was gog the king.” This seems to tie in with Revelation 9 where the king of these locusts is Apollyon or Abaddon, another name for Satan. Thank you so much for your willingness to answer our questions. Any thoughts?
