Extending Life By Artificial Means

Published: May 11, 2026 (Originally published: May 3, 2011)
Q

I have often wondered why God allows people to linger here when they are unable to stay alive unless they are on machines and drugs. My wife died from cancer and the doctors were keeping her alive with drugs and machines. When they told us that, we had them remove all life support and she went home to be with our Lord 6 hrs later. When there is no hope, why is their going home to the Lord delayed?

Self Evaluation

Published: May 8, 2026 (Originally published: May 2, 2011)
Q

I’m listening to “Mere Christianity” online. Goodness Mr. Lewis was insightful. My question is about pride. Mr. Lewis believes that the best way to find out how prideful you are is to examine how much outrage you feel when you witness someone else acting prideful. Isn’t it natural to be annoyed by people who think so highly of themselves? If it is a friend or family member, shouldn’t we point it out to them? Where is the line between pointing out a flaw and stroking your own ego?

Dating First Fruits And Pentecost

Published: May 8, 2026 (Originally published: April 22, 2011)
Q

I have been trying to understand the timing of the Feasts of First Fruits and Pentecost. Reading Leviticus 23 has confused me since they seem to be related more to harvest times than specific dates. Did they float around depending on the harvests or did they come at specific times on the calendar?

Regarding Hebrews 11:13, who does all these people refer to? For Enoch did not die, and which promises did they not receive? is this related to the promise in verse 39? Thanks for the great insights you share on this website.

Paul, Timothy, And The End Times. Follow Up

Published: May 7, 2026 (Originally published: March 31, 2011)
Q

I have a question concerning 1 Cor. 5:9-11 about not associating with believers who behave in certain ways. My brother is not a born again Christian, but we are witnessing to him, and yet his live-in girl friend claims to be a Christian. They both go out and get drunk etc. Should we not even associate with them because of that verse?

More On Paul And Timothy

Published: May 7, 2026 (Originally published: March 31, 2011)
Q

I just got through reading your article about Paul, Timothy And The End Times. As I was reading, the passage of 2 Timothy 3:1-5 absolutely cut me to the quick. I have been greatly struggling and feel as though I would be lucky to be the person who gets in to heaven simply as the man who “slides in though the flames” in Corinthians 3:15. I feel that my faith is proving itself to be nothing more than a form of godliness whose power I am denying. Any words of encouragement and help would be a blessing.

The Fig Tree

Published: May 6, 2026 (Originally published: April 27, 2011)
Q

Re: Matthew 24:32. I have heard that the fig tree represents Israel and relates to the 1967 six day war where Israel gained much land – thus the “leaves coming out”. But I think it could just simply mean that when you see leaves on the trees you know summer is near. Likewise, when you see all these things happening you know the end is near. Could it be that Jesus was just trying to make that point and not give a parable?

Advice On Reading The Bible And Praying

Published: May 6, 2026 (Originally published: April 8, 2011)
Q

I can recount the feeling I had after accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior as well as being Baptized. There are even seasons in my life where I feel closer to the Lord than I do at present. I am a fairly new believer, I know peers who read the Bible daily, who pray consistently, and generally are just shining beacons to those around them. I want to be like that but I just do not know how. Do I start somewhere in the Bible and just begin reading? When I pray, should I be asking something specifically here? I apologize for such questions but I appreciate your time in answering them!

The Power Of The Holy Spirit

I was wondering how the disciples and those with them were able to heal and cast out evil spirits much like Jesus did. It seemed like the Holy Spirit was working through them powerfully. The Holy Spirit would also come upon everyone in a very powerful and evident way. Why do we not hear of anything remotely close to this happening today?

Keeping The Commandments

Matthew 5: 21-22 says “You have heard that it was said to those of old “You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.” But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.” Since God never changes, He never changes His rules. So did Jesus add to this law, or was He saying that God always meant that law to mean that?

Looking Or Lusting?

Published: May 4, 2026 (Originally published: April 28, 2011)
Q

If I understand correctly, lust is a desire for something, whether it is a person, etc…so, with that, a so-called “crush” on someone would be lust. How do I differentiate between lust and “casually” noticing someone’s attractiveness? I’m not trying to justify any sinful behavior, but I would like to have that point cleared up. What scriptures address this issue?

If I Know I’ll Be Blessed, Am I Being Greedy By Giving?

Published: May 4, 2026 (Originally published: March 13, 2011)
Q

I just read your weekly article,” What kind of life can we expect “. I agree with what you said, but I worry that I am being one of the greedy ones. When we give, in the back of my mind I am excited to see how God is going to bless me. Also it just makes me happy to give to others. I have never given without wishing it could be more. We own our farm and do not have any debt, so I am not looking for anything. I am just excited to see how God is going to work. Can you make sense of what I am asking?
