About Apologetics

Published: October 24, 2015 (Originally published: October 25, 2015)
Q

There’s so much evidence out there; from evidence for the Bible, arguments for God’s existence, and historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. I realize that ultimately our faith is not based on evidence but on the witness of the Holy Spirit to our hearts, but it’s nice to have so much confirmation and be able to answer people’s questions. My question is, what is your view about apologetics (evidence and arguments)?

He’s Lost That Loving Feeling

Q

I have a friend who thinks that he has out-sinned God because he no longer feels or hears the Spirit anymore. He has had a long walk with the Lord. Is there any way to explain what has happened to him? Thank you for your ministry.

Is Alcohol Forbidden?

Published: October 23, 2015 (Originally published: October 24, 2015)
Q

I am considering attending Bible college classes at my local church. As part of the application, students promise not to smoke or drink alcohol both on campus and on our own time. I am not a smoker, but enjoy an occasional glass of wine, especially at our family celebrations. Is this rule Biblical? In the New Testament God told us we could eat and drink anything we want. I totally agree that getting drunk is a sin, but even Jesus drank wine. I also would not order an alcoholic beverage or serve alcohol if I knew that someone around me had a problem with alcohol. I would appreciate your guidance.

The Rich Man And Lazarus. One More Time

Published: October 14, 2015 (Originally published: October 18, 2015)
Q

Thank you for your ministry. Your site is great, and I find that I agree with almost everything that you write. I am, however, having a problem with your explanation of the Rich Man and Lazarus. There is nothing in the story that tell us that the rich man was a bad man, or did bad things. His only sin seems to be that he was rich. Lazarus, on the other hand, isn’t portrayed as a good man, just a poor man. Abraham tells the rich man that his sin was being rich while he was alive, and Lazarus is rewarded because he was poor. If the rich man was being punished for being rich – why wasn’t Abraham also being punished for being rich?

The Full Armor Of God

Published: October 14, 2015 (Originally published: October 17, 2015)
Q

I have recently come back to the Lord after being away for 15 years. Now I’m so hungry for Him, for His word, and for the fellowship of other Christians. He guided me to a church family where I can be filled, and I’m very thankful, especially for His wonderful grace.

In the meantime, I struggle almost every single day, with my emotions, with doubt, feelings of unworthiness, trying to live out my faith. According to Ephesians chapter 6, we are to be strong in the Lord….etc. and put on various pieces of spiritual armor. How do we do this?

Praying Continually

Published: October 14, 2015 (Originally published: October 17, 2015)
Q

Referring to 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul states that we are to “pray continually” (NIV). Surely he didn’t mean that we’re to have our heads bowed and praying endlessly for 24/7. Would a better interpretation possibly mean that we should continually remain in a mindful state of prayer?

Seeking The Kingdom Of God

Published: October 14, 2015 (Originally published: October 16, 2015)
Q

What does seek the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness mean? I am struggling with the true meaning of this statement and how it applies to everyday life. Is it simply seeking the Lords will in daily living or is it more than that? I never think of myself as righteous no matter how much I could try to be. My salvation is through God’s Grace alone which is a gift that can never be earned.

Who’s To Bless And Who’s To Blame?

Published: October 14, 2015 (Originally published: October 16, 2015)
Q

Psalm 91 promises protection to the point of not even “stubbing your toe”.  I see Christians everyday struggling with every type of ailment Satan can come up with. I myself have been a man who follows the direction of holy spirit every day and when I fail I ask for forgiveness. But never the less I am in pain continually. Why does God give such a promise as this psalm. I find that non believers can point to this psalm and ask, “Where is this protection God has promised?”

Bible Teachers Selling Survival Products

I have come upon the programs of some TV evangelists as they expound on preparing for the hard times ahead. One even has food buckets he sells and other tools to survive the difficult times ahead. I feel like I am all alone as I don’t have solid ground to stand on. I guess its my doubt that God will provide. Even otherwise trustworthy Bible scholars have areas of disagreement on this subject.

What Promise Didn’t They Receive?

Q

I am having a hard time understanding what Hebrew 11:39-40 implies. In the prior verses we’re told of some of the great men of God who did many wondrous things thru faith. Then verse 39 says they gained a good report thru faith but receive not the promise. The promise of salvation thru our faith in our Lord? Then would you explain the last part of verse 40, that they without us should not be made perfect.

Longing For The Rapture

Published: October 13, 2015 (Originally published: October 14, 2015)
Q

I so want the Rapture to come. At every one of my family’s gatherings for the last few years, when we all pray before we eat, even though we all want the rapture to come now, we ask that the next time we celebrate whatever the “event”, it will be in the New Jerusalem.

I am so blessed, I have a good job, a roof over my head, more than enough food to eat, family that are Born Again, both here and with The Lord. Yet I am so tired of this world, tired of the flagrant disobedience of society to the Word of God, so tired of watching loved ones succumb to the ravages of time, so tired of the rhetoric and “sand kicking across an invisible line” coming from the media, the government, the world. I just want to be with Jesus .

The Most Effective Prayer

Published: October 13, 2015 (Originally published: October 14, 2015)
Q

I’d like to ask for your advice on how to pray the most effectively for a person’s salvation. People who are very important to me (members of my family and my best friend for example) aren’t saved yet. To tell the truth I’m desperate and I’m in distress. To leave behind my loved ones when the Rapture happens is a nightmare. Even worse is the thought that they could die unsaved. The Lord promised that He gives us the desires of our hearts if we delight in Him. I know that even He can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved, still I hope that He could help me through my prayers for the people I love. My greatest desire is to realize that they are with us and be able to hug them after the Rapture.

The Faith To Believe

Published: October 13, 2015 (Originally published: October 13, 2015)
Q

In your Psalm 91 posting you stated that “The faith we have to believe is a gift from God (Ephes. 2:8-9)…”, which is a very strong point for a Calvinist. I think the proper interpretation of that verse is that God’s “grace” is the gift, not “faith”. A study on the gift of God in the NT will clarify that position. Paul did state in 1 Cor. 12:9 that “faith” is a special spiritual gift, as contrasted with the other 7 listed gifts. So not all of those mentioned had the gift of “faith”, which implies that this was a special empowering of “faith”. I believe that this is the only place in the NT where the “gift of faith” is stated.

The Angel Of The Lord

A question arose as we were studying Isaiah 37:36 which tells us the angel of the Lord went forth and smote 185,000 Assyrians. One of those in the class said that the Angel of the Lord refers to Jesus Christ. He further said that the appearances of the Angel of the Lord, in the Old Testament, refers to an appearance of God the Son, before the birth of Christ. Can you confirm this?

The Devil In Heaven

Q

I would like to know something about the actual presence of the devil in heaven. Does this mean that his millions of “minions” are also there and for what purpose exactly would they be there? I suppose it cannot be in order to “tempt” the saints to sin, considering that there is no sin in heaven. Is it to accuse them day and night as he did for Job?? Whatever your thoughts on this, I am looking forward to know them and also the scriptures that support them.

Restoration of All Things

Published: October 8, 2015 (Originally published: October 7, 2015)
Q

Acts 3:21 says:

“…whom [speaking of Jesus] heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God spoke long ago by the mouth of his holy prophets.” (WEB)

I recently saw a website that says this verse means that the Church has to “restore all things” before Christ can return, so we need to get busy “restoring” things.

I have never in my life read this verse this way. I always assumed it meant that Christ will not return (at the Second Coming) until it’s time to “restore all things,” which I take to mean “until it’s time to establish the Millennial Kingdom following the Tribulation.” Can you elaborate a bit on the proper interpretation of this verse?

Am I Still Saved?

Published: October 8, 2015 (Originally published: October 8, 2015)
Q

A few days back due to the problems in my life I said very bad things to God and Jesus. I feel sorry for what I said and I don’t want to go to hell. I am a born again Christian, I pray for others, tell them about Jesus, I help the poor, and I really have a tender heart in that I want everyone to get saved and be happy. But sometimes, due to the troubles I currently have, I get irritated when they don’t help me and shout at God. The last time it was just way too much. Can I still remain saved?
