The Woman Caught In Adultery

Published: August 23, 2016 (Originally published: August 21, 2012)
Q

According to the Gospel of John, the Pharisees, in an attempt to discredit Jesus, brought a woman charged with adultery before him. Then they reminded Jesus that adultery was punishable by stoning under Mosaic law and challenged him to judge the woman. They were hoping to accuse him of disobeying the law by showing her mercy. Jesus thought for a moment and then replied, “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.”

The people around him were so convicted by their own consciences that they quickly departed. When Jesus found himself alone with the woman, he asked her who were her accusers. She replied, “No man, lord.” Jesus then said, “Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more.”

Did Jesus uphold the Mosaic law or not?

Will The Angels Leave Too?

Published: August 23, 2016 (Originally published: August 22, 2012)
Q

You have mentioned that after the rapture, the Holy Spirit will be taken out of the way (2 Thes. 2:7). Does that mean all of heaven’s good angels will be taken away as well? Planet earth will be a horrific place if the spiritual realm is 100% evil.

Knowing What We Believe And Why

Published: August 16, 2016 (Originally published: June 3, 2009)
Q

I heard a lesson recently from a Bible teacher whose topic was “Are you saved?” He said belief doesn’t equal automatic salvation. It’s the quality of the belief that determines salvation. He said not everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved, but only those who “do the will of my father.” He said whoever just talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk is not saved no matter how many sinner’s prayers they pray. It’s the doing that’s the proving. He said even demons believe in Jesus and tremble. This has created quite a conflict for me. Can you help?

Walking In The Light But Still Sinning

Published: August 16, 2016 (Originally published: August 14, 2011)
Q

1 John 1:5-10 seems to contradict itself. At one point it talks about walking in the light and if we say we have fellowship with Him but walk in the darkness we are liars then it says if we have no sin we are deceiving ourselves, what do these verses mean?

Becoming As Perfect As God Is

Published: August 16, 2016 (Originally published: August 15, 2011)
Q

A member of our church says that Matthew 5:48 says that we are perfect once we are saved. I understand that that verse says that we should strive to be perfect; our goal is to be perfect like Jesus. Which is it?

Can We Lose Our Salvation?

Published: August 16, 2016 (Originally published: August 16, 2011)
Q

In referring to the security of our salvation, you have said, “There’s not a single verse anywhere in Scripture that even hints of Him removing His mark, unsealing the Holy Spirit, or rescinding His guarantee.” Could you please explain Rev 3:5 “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” How can the Lord blot out someone’s name from the book of life if the name was never written in the book of life or if the person will not be removed by the Lord?

And in Rev 2:5 “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” From where did these people fall and what do you understand that the Lord will remove their candlestick means?

A friend and I were discussing the increasing anti-Israel sentiment in the world and he said, “Personally I agree. I don’t even think there should BE an Israel!” How do I calmly respond to that?

Repentance And Salvation

Published: August 23, 2016 (Originally published: August 24, 2012)
Q

I am currently reading through the book of Acts, and something struck me as I read the first 10 chapters. In the early church, when the Holy Spirit came upon the new converts, there is nothing mentioned about brokenness or repentance for sin. Can you explain this as these feelings were a significant component of my experience and I’ve come to understand repentance to be a precondition for being born-again.

Paint Over It Or Not?

Published: August 23, 2016 (Originally published: August 25, 2012)
Q

A former attendee of our church painted a nice mural on the wall. Later it was known that she is involved in the occult and during the time of the painting was in an adulterous relationship. There is a faction in our church that has asked the elders to have the mural painted over and have offered to do it but the elders have refused. They say it is just a picture and that when we demonstrate forgiveness Satan never wins. Can there be any satanic power attached to it and is there any biblical teaching to support its removal?
