The Lord’s Real Name

Published: June 8, 2023 (Originally published: June 13, 2007)
Q

I’m from India. I’m a Christian believer. I used to attend church, meetings everything which belong to God. But since a couple of days one question is killing my faith and burning my soul. Please clarify this doubt.

What is the real name of our Lord Jesus Christ? For example there are several Muslims around the world. They all call their God as ALLAH only. But in our mission, English people call as Jesus, Hindi people call as Iesa, Greeek People call as Iesus Christos, Telugu people call as Yesu, etc., This made me think thoroughly that what might be the real name of God.

When I began studying the bible the spirit guided me and gave me a reply. God of the Scriptures talked with Moses near a fiery bush. There he spake with Moses and told his name in the language HEBREW. In new testament also God spake with Apostle Paul in Damascus and told his name in HEBREW again. This made me understand that God told his name only Hebrew. That might be his real name. I think that we all are praising him with pagan names. But anyhow I’m afraid a lot in dealing this subject. Please help me and save me from this feelings.

A Bible Study by Jack Kelley

Today we begin a study of Paul’s letter to the Galatians which I’ve subtitled “The Case Against Combining Law And Grace.” Scholars are divided as to the date of this letter. Some place it in the late 40s and others in the early 50s.

Keys To Hell Follow Up

Q

In regards to the Ask a Bible Teacher post on The Keys to Hell, I found a verse in Col 2:15. It states: “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” I understand some bible experts say this means that after Jesus died, He went into Hell and exerted his authority and dominance.

Prophecy And Current Events

Published: May 3, 2007 (Originally published: May 3, 2007)
Q

Prophecy wise, it looks as if all is coming together and yet when studying what the Word says and trying to fit in the every day events, I’m more confused than ever. I’ve just read about the U.S and Germany being friendly over some sort of “Single market” pact. Isn’t Germany in prophecy?

Also, the U.S. is still seeking a 2 state plan between Israel and the Palestinians. Doesn’t that put us at odds with God’s purposes? Are these not more signs of how close we are to the end?

75 Prerequisites

Published: December 24, 2006 (Originally published: December 24, 2006)
Q

I have heard that in the late 1800s, when there was considerable expectation among Christians that the Second Coming was nigh, a group of Bible scholars compiled a list of 75 prerequisites that had to be in place before the Second coming could occur. For example, there had to be a nation or group of nations that could send an army of 200,000,000 across the Euphrates River toward the nation of Israel. As of the late 1800s, only about 1/2 those prerequisites were in place. But now, all but two are in place. The last two are the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem and the birth of a 10-nation confederacy — the resurrected Roman Empire.

Can you confirm this story? If so, can you provide a reference for further reading on the subject?

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this topic.

A Question About Pre-Trib

Published: July 7, 2007 (Originally published: July 7, 2007)
Q

I have been studying prophecy for just over a year now, and I have a traditional pre-tribulation rapture perspective. However, there is one issue that makes me question whether I have the correct rapture position, and that is the language regarding the wrath of God.

I understand that “For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Thess. 5:9 could refer to wrath as in eternal hell OR the wrath mentioned in the Great Tribulation. I am assuming it relates to the wrath in the tribulation…if not, I know there are other passages which speak to the believer not enduring the wrath of the tribulation.

Anyway…I have not been COMPLETELY convinced that the wrath of God begins with the seals, because wrath/avenge/judgment are not mentioned until the 5th seal, Rev. 6:10 and then it seems to INTRODUCE the wrath of God only at Rev 6:16-17.

As you know, the first 4 seals have already been opened on the earth, but where does it mention that the seals are indeed included as a part of the wrath of God? I find many hints suggesting that they are included because the scriptures addressing seals say that the events unfolding from them were given/granted/empowered by God..and that they would affect the whole world (Rev 3:10)

Please help me either define the seals as the wrath of God or help me understand why they are not. Thank you so much!
