After studying the prophecy about the destruction of Damascus and the opinions of prophecy scholars, I am becoming more convinced that it was already fulfilled when Damascus was destroyed by the Assyrians in 732 BC. If this was indeed the case and I think history confirms it, and the fact that Damascus is a city at the present time, could scripture be referring to a temporary desolation like it happened to many nations when they were destroyed by invading armies?

Is there a double fulfillment for the Oracle against Damascus? As my commentary, Believers Commentary by Wm. MacDonald, says the one in Is. 17 has been fulfilled. He says Damascus was destroyed by the Assyrian armies in 732 BC and Samaria fell ten years later. I was surprised when I read this as you hear a lot about Damascus being destroyed, ala Isaiah 17.

My question today concerns the destruction of Damascus. In your series on Isaiah, you state that Israel will be the ones to destroy Damascus. When I read the passages in question, it does not seem to indicate that Israel is the one causing the desolation, rather, that it is the outcome for attacking Israel. Under the context that God has used many different nations in the past to carry out His plans, is it not possible that another party will be responsible for Damascus’ destruction? I can’t help but think that Assad, once he flees to his mountain stronghold, might unleash on Damascus himself. Do you think that such an alternative scenario is possible?

There’s so much going on in the Middle East and Syria is moving all important documents out of Damascus- which is interesting to me. I wonder if the destruction of Damascus will be a set-up. What I mean is this- right now so many countries are trying to pin any sort of confrontation on Israel before it even happens. Iran is trying to cover it’s moves by diverting attention anywhere but on itself. Russia doesn’t want the US to interfere with it’s plans to be better partners with dangerous countries. Syria says that it believes Israel is planning an attack on Damascus- and you know if it happens all fingers will be pointing at Israel. Then all the other mideast countries will be “fighting for/with” Syria against the “Zionists”… what if the attack were done by another country, but all the evidence was looked over because they want war? Is that Biblically possible or does the Bible make it clear how Damascus will be destroyed?

We have been thinking a lot about Damascus being destroyed by a nuclear bomb. One problem is that the prevailing winds are from west to east, and it appears that the winds could carry the nuclear contamination quite a distance. This could kill a lot of other people outside Damascus and even beyond Syria’s borders. Do you have any thoughts on this?

How do you think Damascus will be destroyed and when? Prior to Daniel’s 70 week? And will it be by a nuke from Israel or will 100 to 300 metric tons of biological and chemical weapons stored in Syria contaminate their own city?

In regards to Isaiah 17 and the destruction of Damascus, does all of Damascus have to be destroyed? With all the fighting, destruction, and death in Syria right now could that be what was meant by the “destruction of Damascus”? I am wondering if it can be greatly damaged due to this current war or if it as to be totally destroyed to fit the Isaiah 17 prophecy.

I was preaching the other day about the Rapture when the Lord gave me an insight regarding Isaiah 17. He said: please notice that Damascus has been nearly destroyed and will not return to be a city anymore. I just met with an Arab friend who went there and he confirmed that. I understand it is the fulfillment of Isaiah 17 that occurred just in front of our eyes (not in the real sense because it didn’t appear on TV). What do you think?

Is it your belief that the destruction of Damascus will occur before Gog/Magog? If so will Israel also at the time have great destruction of some kind?

I have been thinking about the Oslo Agreement which apparently has been written but never confirmed. I understand that it is a 7 year agreement but the 7 years have never started. Do you think the Oslo Agreement might be the document, which the Antichrist confirms?

In addition, I am also very interested in the Isaiah 17 passage relating to Damascus. Do you think that the destruction of Damascus could happen this summer?
