The Gift Of Tongues Reviewed

Published: November 26, 2008
Q

Please help me on the issue of speaking in New Tongues. Mark 16: 17-18 says,

“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

In our churches we see people going out of their way speaking in tongues because they are told that they are spiritually immature if they do not speak in tongues and they have been using the above verse and Acts 2 as something that obligates them to speaking in tongues.

I actually don’t speak in tongues and I cannot fake them if there is nothing that allows me to do that. I’m a principled believer that doesn’t do what I’m not sure of. I saw several people people speaking this language that they cannot even know nor can they be known by any interpreter or outsider, claiming that God hears it. In some churches they even teach members how to speak in these funny tongues.

Please explain this issue of tongues before I get more confused or prejudiced or feel less of a believer because I don’t speak in tongues.

More On The Temple

Q

I seem to remember the Bible speaking of the Jews having had two “Temples.” Was one David’s tabernacle like the one in the Wilderness, and the other Solomon’s Temple.

Is it possible, in the great scheme of things, that the first to be raised will be a portable tabernacle, and that it is there that the AC will declare himself to be God? That would considerably advance the nearness of End Times since there would be no need to wait to resolve the political aspects of actually building a Temple of stone? Are we sure that it is the formal stone Temple that is referred to in prophecy of the End Times?

Sexual Sin

Q

I don’t know where to begin. I came across your web site and thought to give it a try. I, believe it or not, am ashamed and a minister as well. I have committed adultery and have repented of it. I have also been counseled by my previous pastor and prayed with him as well (confess your faults one to another). The day I called him I had a breakdown and he said the Lord put in his spirit the previous night to call me so the Lord opened the door for us.

My question is since I repented (1 John 1:9) and counseled with my pastor should I move on or tell my wife? I don’t feel led to tell her. I understand the nature of the sin I committed against a Holy God. I was not caught and I confessed as humbly as I know how to. I am curious on your thought.

You Should Be Ashamed

Q

You should be ashamed sending out a message about the future President of the United States and questioning whether he is the anti-Christ or not. You should be ashamed. It is just as likely or even perhaps more likely that Sarah Palin is the Anti-Christ.

Sending out a message like this does nothing but increase the fear of those who are gullible to such beliefs and undermines and slanders the name of a very good man. Shame on you for casting your bias and fears onto our President and causing even more discord in this world than already exists.

I am a born again Christian. I cannot say enough how much I feel you should be ashamed of propagating this vile point of view.

I Am Desperate For Healing

Published: November 25, 2008
Q

As you know I am so desperate to be healed that I have been considering attending Bible College next year in the hope that it will discipline me to exercise my spiritual muscles more to believe for my healing. I am very confused and have been praying about this matter but I cannot seem to get an answer. I know that something needs to change in my life as I simply cannot continue to live like this from a mental, emotional and spiritual point of view. I am thirsty and hungry for the things of God and yet cannot seem to get into the Word and pray much. I know that I don’t have to go to Bible College to be healed but what do I do?

Children In The Rapture

Published: November 25, 2008
Q

I’m sure you’ve been asked this question before and I hope this doesn’t sound stupid, but I’m wondering what do you think happens with unborn babies at the time of the rapture if their mother is not a believer? Obviously if the pregnant mother is a believer she will be taken in the rapture anyway. My understanding is that all children under the age of accountability will be taken in the rapture regardless of their parent’s beliefs…is that correct?

What Spirits Did Jesus Preach To?

Published: November 16, 2008
Q

Let me first say you deserve an immeasurable gratitude for allowing God to use you in explaining his word to his people.

Question about 1Peter 3:19-20 When I read the above verses I just get a bit confused. As you know that it speaks about Jesus Christ going and preaching to the Spirits that were imprisoned from the time of the flood. 1. I want to know why Jesus Christ had to preach to them hence preaching is mostly for bringing the truth to a sinner for the purpose of converting such a sinner? 2. Were those Spirits converted and entered the heaven, if your answer is yes then does that mean there is salvation beyond death.. 3. Around Jesus’ death on the cross the bible also speaks about graves opening and people resurrected and went to the holy City…where and what is that holy City and what then happened to those people?

Tribulation Believers In Babylon

Published: November 16, 2008
Q

Hello Jack, thank you for your ministry and website. My question is about the Church of Laodicea and the Apostate Church of Revelation 17 – 18. In Rev 3:17 Jesus says to the Church of Laodicea …. “you don’t know that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked”. I believe the word “naked” means they are unbelievers which leads me to believe there are no believers in this church. But then in Rev 18:4 God says …. “Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins, or receive any of her plagues.” This leads me to believe there are believers in this Apostate Church as God calls them “My people”.

So, I don’t know how to reconcile these two depictions of the last days church. I was thinking that Laodicea is before the rapture and the church of Rev 17-18 is after the rapture, but if that’s the case, where are the believers during the time of Laodicea? Please help me sort this out!
