Due to over crowding, the students in a nearby village are not getting enough personal attention from their teachers.  The weaker ones are falling behind and when that happens the government threatens to take them away from their parents.  The principal asked the government to build another classroom to correct this problem, but she was turned down.  Unlike many principals, she insists her students learn music, art, and sports in addition to required classes, making hers one of the few full day schools around.   This costs money that would otherwise be available for buildings.  They said she can’t have both.

Not willing to sacrifice the quality of her program, she asked us to build the overflow classroom, and after getting permission from the government, we agreed.  This is a campus format so each classroom is a separate building.  We are providing this at no cost to the school and out of gratitude, parents with construction skills have agreed to help with the labor under the direction of our crew.  They are proud of their school and are happy to help preserve its programs.  As you can see the kids are pretty happy, too.

Last week we put together a Christmas food distribution for 31 especially needy families in the community where our home building ministry is focused. The pictures show the bulk shipment itemized below,  a sample of  the gift packages we made from it, and some of the happy moms whose families received a special Christmas gift package this year.  In the process we noticed some extra needy families, and included Christmas presents for some kids who otherwise would not have received any.  This all happened thanks to the Lord’s prompting and your generosity.  Click on any image to enlarge.

This single mom and her little boy lived in a shack made of  used garage doors.  One for each side and two for the roof. The wood had rotted and when it rained it was almost as bad as being outside.  Run off from the rain came right through the sleeping area.  As you can see, we had to tear it down and start over with a new concrete floor instead of the mostly dirt one they had before.  Now they have a two bedroom house with a solid floor, a roof that keeps them dry and indoor plumbing. Click on any picture for expanded detail.

A dad, his single daughter, and her little boy lived in what was essentially a one room house.  We added another room and a shower for the mom and her son, building new steps up to the exterior entrance, and creating an interior entrance from the existing window you can see in the side of the original house.  The walk up fruit and vegetable stand in the foreground of the first picture is how this mother supports herself and her son.   Click on any picture for expanded detail.

Every Christmas, we put together a food distribution for especially needy families in the community where our home building ministry is focused. This year, because of your incredible generosity, we were able to double the size of our distribution and even add some extras! We have always included the basics for the average household here in Mexico, but this year we were able to add some meat and other items that are considered splurges. This family has two young kids, and their home is basically a one room studio apartment. Last year we were asked to give concrete so the Dad could poor a cement floor, and we learned about their situation when we delivered it. Their land goes straight up a mountain and this one room house was built right up against it. We knew we wanted to add onto the house, but the property is so vertical we would need to hire a tractor to clear a space for the construction. The first several we contacted didn’t even want to drive to the property, and wouldn’t consider working on it. After much prayer we found someone willing and construction began!  The addition will have one bedroom for the kids and one for the parents, with a bathroom in between. This will be their first indoor bathroom!

Because of your amazing generosity, we’ll be able to give this family some much needed space and raise their standard of living considerably. Thank you so much!

We have a steady harvest of zucchini and green beans. We are so grateful for such good weather to get our garden maturing and producing so well!

In early 2016 we started a garden to feed the poor in a small town in Mexico. Here’s what the garden looks like now!

We are harvesting Italian zucchini, traditional Mexican calabacitas, and several other types of squash, daily. The community now knows the harvest schedule well and those in need know when we’ll have fresh picked produce available.

It’s been drier and warmer, but the garden is doing well! We continue to harvest many types of squash daily. We have melons, cucumbers, cabbage, peppers, and beets to harvest as well.

Thanks to your generosity, so many in this community who would have gone hungry now have fresh organic produce!

Many kids in the community love to come help too. They help carry and hand out the produce when it’s ready. We’ve even had a toddler who loves to sneak in and eat the cucumbers off the vine while the older kids are helping!

We’ve been tilling the ground, adding new compost and fertilizer, and getting it ready for the next planting. We still have beets growing on the side, and our greenhouse is filled with seedlings ready to be planted once the soil is ready.

We’ve been so blessed with great weather! We’ve also been able to keep everything organic, and we haven’t had any problems with pests. Thank you Lord for protecting this garden! And thank you to all who join with us to keep this garden going to provide food to those in need!

You’ll see in the photos below the clever device our workers made to till the ground from scraps from our home building ministry! This is reusing at its finest, and it meant we didn’t need to buy any equipment.
